Specialty coffee

What is specialty
coffee?
The Specialty category includes only lots of coffee rated at 80+ points on the quality scale, developed by the Coffee Quality Institute (CQI) using the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) evaluation form.
They are the highest quality coffees growers can grow, but this depends on numerous factors such as the agricultural practices they follow, the harvesting methods and the processing, transport and storage methods used.
Microclimate, weather conditions throughout production and harvesting, the varieties cultivated, and so on, also play an equally important role. It is a chain of actions in which each factor will have a negative or positive impact on the final result.
Over recent years the Specialty Coffee sector –which constitutes just a 5%-10% of annual worldwide coffee production– has been growing rapidly, with an ever-expanding audience turning their interests towards quality coffee.
In 2016 KAFEA TERRA set up a team of experts that's comprised of professionals who are engaged exclusively in sourcing, roasting and offering the finest specialty coffees.
Ιt is this team that has gone on to create the AREA 51 Artisan Coffee Roasters project that allows KAFEA TERRA to meet the needs of specialty coffee shops.
