What makes
"Ethiopia" unique

Ethiopia is renowned as the birthplace of coffee, and it
remains today a beloved specialty coffee industry destination
due to its remarkable range of flavors

When we first cupped this coffee, we were impressed by how clean tasting it was, considering that it was a natural processed coffee.

ORIGIN & WASHING STATION

The kebele (village) of Worka is located in Gedeb district, Gedeo zone in the ‘Southern Nations, Nationalities & Peoples’ (SNNP) region of Ethiopia. The washing station Worka Nenke is not far from Gedeb town and is broadly considered as part of the Yirgacheffe coffee growing region.

The station sits at 1,983masl and is serviced by the Lekole river, while in total it processes cherries from 2,950 local smallholder farmers. Farmers in this region typically cultivate Jarc (an Ethiopian heirloom sub-variety) on small plots of land around their house. Hence, these plots are colloquially known as 'garden coffee'.

Over a number of years, the region has developed a distinguished reputation for fine coffees, producing some of the most sought-after microlots in world. The combination of high altitude (up to 2,200m in some areas), fertile soil, consistent and plentiful rains, and an abundance of local knowledge are all contributing factors to the high status of Yirgacheffe coffees.
